The Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai welcomes back guests

After almost two years of careful restoration, the Taj Mahal Palace hotel has reopened its doors in the Indian city Mumbai.

The iconic property, “India’s original luxury hotel”, was closed after the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks that shook the city and stunned TV audiences around the world.

“Today, we have fulfilled our promise of rebuilding the Taj to its former glory,” said Raymond Bickson, managing director, Indian Hotels Company Limited.

“The Taj Mahal has always reinvented itself and its storied past which makes it the icon that it is. The palace wing has been lovingly and painstakingly restored, and we will now offer our guests an even more customized experience.”

The extensive restoration of the Palace Wing of the hotel was carried out by internationally acclaimed designers including Lissoni Associati, Milan; BAMO San Francisco; DesignWilkes, Malaysia; and James Park Associates, Singapore.

The new-look rooms reek of luxury, with precious pieces of artwork, cutting edge technology and a spirit that reflects the epic history of the century old property, which was opened on December 16, 1903.

“It is a befitting tribute to the spirit and resilience that is The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai; and the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the hotel,” Bickson added.
