For the last 30 years, Rocky Mountaineer has been organising luxury train journeys in the spectacular landscape of the Canadian Rockies, ferrying passengers from Vancouver on three scenic routes deep into the mountains. This year for the first time, the company is venturing across the border into the United States, with a scenic two-day journey between Colorado and Utah.
Carving a line through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Southwestern US, the ‘Rockies to the Red Rocks’ route will depart Denver, Colorado, and head west towards Moab, Utah, following the course of the Colorado River and detouring to pass through steep canyons and sheer rock faces, before stopping off for in Glenwood Springs, where guests will spend the night. The next morning, the journey continues through the mountainous landscape of western Colorado, before crossing the state line and skirting past the awe-inspiring rock formations of Arches National Park, then rolling into in the red landscape of Moab.
Along the way, passengers will soak in the breath-taking scenery through glass-domed train carriages while Rocky Mountaineer guides tell stories about the region and its striking features, and feast on fine cuisine typical of the Southwestern US. Upgrading to the SilverLeaf Plus package grants access to an exclusive lounge car, where signature cocktails and premium beverages await, and an outdoor viewing area allows passengers to savour the sights and sounds of the countryside in the open air.
The two-day journey starts from US $1,250 and includes one night at a hotel in Glenwood Springs. Alternatively, the experience can be extended with overnight stays in Denver and Moab, before continuing to Las Vegas for the flight home.
