You won't have to travel far to uncover artistic talent when staying at The Peninsula Bangkok, where a new artist in residence programme sees some of Thailand’s finest creators relocate to the hotel for two months at a time.
Following a successful collaboration with young artist Kawita Vatanajyangkur, whose live performance KNIT was one of the highlights of the Bangkok Art Biennale in 2018, the hotel has teamed up with designer and illustrator Pichaya O for the second residency. Guests will be able to explore Pichaya’s interactive work on display throughout the hotel via an app that brings her colourful prints to life with augmented reality, or join a special Afternoon Tea created with pastry chef Nicolas Pelloie. From August, Bangkok-based artist Taweesak Molsawat takes up residency in the hotel’s custom-built studio to create an interactive exhibition exploring the loss of community in the urban jungle of cities like Bangkok. Part performance, part social research, his ‘Sala Oasis’ will feature artwork and sculptures made from discarded materials and objects gathered from local communities.
