No trip to New York is complete without visiting the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), founded 90 years ago and today revered as one of the best collections of modern art in the world. The museum reopens this month following a major expansion of its Midtown campus, increasing its exhibition space by 30 per cent and adding new spaces for contemporary art, educational programmes and a studio for live exhibitions and performance art.
The majority of the new space is occupied by the new David Geffen Wing, which covers almost 2,800 square metres across new second-, fourth- and fifth-floor galleries and hosts some of the inaugural exhibitions, curated from the museum’s own collection.
Developed by MoMA in partnership with architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro (who also created The Shed at Hudson Yards and The High Line) and architecture and design firm Gensler (Shanghai Tower and Incheon International Airport), the new-look space opens on October 21.
