Dubai’s bustling DIFC area is known for great food, energetic vibes and its fair share of live music. Mina Brasserie alone ticks all those boxes. Conveniently located in the Four Seasons DIFC, the gourmet hotspot is well known among the city’s movers and shakers who come for the great food and stay for the vibrant atmosphere. Tempted by the new menu, we arrived at the elegant European-style restaurant, reminiscent of a 1920s French parlour, with beautiful booths, a terrace softly illuminated with rows of fairy lights and stylish bar areas – indoor and out.
Electing to sit on the terrace we were seated and greeted by the restaurant manager who talked us through the new menu with great enthusiasm. So impressed with what was being said I asked the gentleman to select our order as I wanted to see what they took pride in and thought was best. Waiting to see where this mystery food tour would take us we were brought Michael Mina’s tuna tartare, salmon tartare and the oak-grilled octopus. I was a little surprised when I saw two fish-based tartare dishes; I would normally not pair two of the same types of dish. However, these two plates could not have been more discrete.
I love that Chef Mina has taken something as simple as the humble sprout and elevated it to a gourmet treat.
The salmon had a surprising hint of citrus compared to the tuna with caviar and crème fraîche – quite a stunning and well thought out dish. The charred octopus was exceptional and cooked to perfection, charred on the outside but not overcooked in the centre. For the main event we were sent a dish to share –the Mediterranean sea bass with a tomato relish and fennel salad. With a bit of showmanship, the fish was brought whole and served tableside with an accompaniment of parmesan truffle fries and crispy Brussels sprouts which, I’m told, is a house speciality.
The sea bass was well cooked and full of flavour, crumbling away with the press of the fork. It could have comfortably served 3-4 with a couple of additional sides as the portion was large. The Brussel sprouts are something that the restaurant is known for and that is no longer a surprise. They were delicious, crispy and full of flavour. I love that Chef Mina has taken something as simple as the humble sprout and elevated it to a gourmet treat.
Dessert was a beautiful crème brûlée served with fresh raspberries and enjoyed with an espresso while tapping our feet to the live jazz band. Truly one of DIFC’s gems, MINA Brasserie is a must-try for those looking for a classic European dining experience in Dubai’s most contemporary hub.
