Nestled among the clifftops to the north of San Diego, Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas will become the Asia-born brand’s second US outpost when it opens in 2021. Sustainability and community will be at the core of the offering for this southern Californian belle, with a low-impact design that blends into the landscape courtesy of San Diego-based Joseph Wong Design Associates. Interiors by Brooklyn-based Mark Zeff Associates will take cues from the resort’s name, Marea, which means tide in Spanish.
An ocean-view restaurant with rooftop patio will look out towards the Pacific and Grandview and South Ponto Beaches below the resort, while a pool bar and infinity-edge hot tub provide ample excuse to linger over lazy afternoons poolside. As well as the indulgent treatments available at Spa Alila, wellness activities including surf and paddleboard lessons will be available to guests, as well as cycling, hiking and beachside yoga. Further sustainable touches include a bike valet and electric vehicle charging station, and a public access staircase leading from the clifftops to the beach below.
