A private island off the coast of Dubai will be the setting for the Chanel Cruise 2014/15, which is expected to cost around US $2.5 million – largely spent on building a ‘structure’ for the event.
The location of the show, set for May 13, has been kept secret for some time but “The Island” is reported to be 650 metres from the Dubai shore. Invited guests will join for a glitzy evening event set against the backdrop of the city’s skyline.
Such events have been held around the world since 2000, showcasing Chanel’s collections in New York LA, Versailles, Edinburgh, Singapore and elsewhere. More recently, Lagerfeld hosted the autumn 2013 couture show in the Grand Palais, Paris.
Chanel referred to Dubai as "a futuristic megalopolis of the 21st century,” in a recent statement.
“This dynamic and multicultural city that inspires travel and evokes the spirit of Cruise is also the perfect setting for the show that will be held on May 13th 2014 in the presence of Karl Lagerfeld," it continued.
