Since the late 1930s, Battersea Power Station has dominated the skyline of South-West London. Originally built to produce one fifth of the capital’s power, the station gained notoriety as the biggest brick building in Europe, before being decommissioned in the mid-70s. Since then, the Art Deco behemoth has become one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, earning its status as a building of ‘special historical interest’. And now you have a chance to live in it.
As part of a US $13 billion redevelopment scheme, the power station will be converted into 254 ultra-luxury apartments, each designed by renowned London design firm Michaelis Boyd Architects. Earmarked to accommodate elite residents, each accommodation will feature spectacular river and city views, minimalist interiors and and high finish quality.
However, with the smallest studio apartment in the complex retailing at $1.4 million, and a three-bed alternative setting buyers back $4.6 million, living in a London landmark doesn’t come cheap. If you’re looking to really splash the cash, ambitious plans have been unveiled to build two enormous penthouse apartments between the building’s chimneys. No guide price has been given for these residential spaces, but we expect it could add a zero.
The first show apartment is ready for viewing now. Construction is expected to finish by 2019, at which point the full portfolio of apartments will be available to view and buy.
