The new Royal Savoy Lausanne building is taking shape and is still set for a June 2015 opening, according to owners.
The high-rise building shell has topped out, but work still remains to be done behind the façade to complete the renovation of the 196-key property on time.
Guestrooms will be divided between the historic and contemporary buildings, with 101 and 95 apiece. The restaurant will seat 120 diners and an Orangerie with additional terrace space will host an additional 100 guests.
Other facilities will include a lobby lounge that seats 60 and a Sky Terrace on the roof, with equal capacity and 360-degree panoramic views. In addition, the 1,500 metre-square wellness facility will include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, separate male and female areas, eight treatment rooms, two private spas and a well-stocked gym.
Doha-based Katara Hospitality bought the hotel in 2007 and is returning the property “to its former glory”, according to a statement.
“With the architectural style of a Grand Chateau, its international standing and unique design, the Royal Savoy is both a historic building and the pride of the city of Lausanne,” said Hamad Abdulla Al-Mulla, CEO of Katara Hospitality.
“In short, this hotel perfectly complements our international portfolio of iconic hotels in that it represents both a rich heritage and a shining future.”
