British baker Georgia Green, owner of Georgia’s Cakes, is offering a fully bespoke gingerbread house, featuring 150 pearls and a large ruby.
Claimed to be the world’s most expensive gingerbread house, the Christmas treat will be made to order for GBP 49,750 (US $78,000).
That might be on account of the 150 AAAA grade South Sea Pearls and the five-carat unheated Mozambique Ruby, set upon the icing, but the price tag also reflects the use of quality ingredients.
Chef Green will use organic Duchy eggs and Ceylon Cinnamon and, if there aren’t enough pearls, more can be added for an additional cost.
The Cordon Bleu-trained chef’s shopping list looks a little something like this:
While the pictured gingerbread house is a great example of a classic piece of festive confectionary, Green will create edible dwelling completely to order, so a customer can have a delicious domicile in the shape of his or her own home - roughly measuring 65 cm in height.
Georgia’s Cakes will also make a GBP 1,000 ($1,570) donation to The Prince’s Trust upon making a sale and the price also includes delivery within the UK. Orders must be placed by December 10 to ensure a timely delivery.
