If you search Leila Yavari online, you'll find a slew of Pinterest worthy street style shots of this Iranian-American fashion director, looking polished and poised all over the world. One thing's clear, jet setting has become her way of life, but how does she make it look so effortless? We spoke to the fashion maven about where she loves to visit, what you'll find inside her suitcase, and where in the world she's headed next.
As a fashion director, you spend a lot of time traveling, what are some of the destinations you frequent most?
I’m usually in constant rotation between Paris, London, New York and Milan. Buying appointments, re-sees, designer meetings and special projects are always on the schedule. It’s hard to complain since these cities offer so much richness in culture—not just fashion (of which there is plenty), but art and architecture. For instance, on my last trip to Milan, I made to time escape to Fondazione Prada—an incredible and inspiring visit. I also get to spend so much time with these amazing talents, many of whom have become close friends.
You recently visited Tulum, what were the highlights?
There is no shortage of highlights in Tulum: the beaches, the vistas, the food, and the people. I try to spend as much time there as possible. Right now, I’m fantasizing of a long afternoon lounging in a private cabana either at Coqui Coqui or Ahau Tulum. Both resorts offer the most amazing ocean vistas, specialty cocktails and incredible seafood—pretty much everything that you need! Any visitor should also tuck into Hacienda Montaecristo, whose collection specializes in Yucatan-made pieces. The woven separates and tooled leather accessories are my favourites. Of course, if you can’t go in person, you can find a full selection on Stylebop.com

What are your go-to destinations when you have time to travel for yourself?
Definitely anywhere tropical: Mustique, Bora Bora and Tulum are always at the top of my list, especially during the winter season. During August, I love to spend time in Los Angeles before heading off to Ibiza to visit friends. It’s always the perfect destination to indulge in a little summer decadence before September begins.
Do you have any bucket list destinations your dying to visit?
I’ve been fortunate that work has taken me to so many amazing locations. It’s always an adventure and you’re constantly discovering new places. Of course, I always have a weakness for anywhere exotic, maybe the Galapagos. I love the idea of visiting this delicate ecosystem that offers a glimpse into the world as it was thousands of years ago. It’s so inspiring.
Which designers do you enjoy wearing when your jet-setting?
A white cotton dress and espadrilles from Valentino are always in my suitcase. The workmanship is impeccable, but the look so effortless--they look elegant and at ease anywhere I go. I love a knit bikini—usually I try to bring several, definitely one from Chloe and one from Missoni. A large sunhat from Maison Michel for the chicest sun protection, sunglasses from Celine and a supple leather tote from Hacienda Montaecristio that can fit a few good books.
What products would you call your travel essentials?
I keep my beauty regimen pretty pared down on a holiday: Clarin’s Sunscreen for protection; my go-to scent at the moment is Intelligence & Fantasy Vol. 1: Beautiful Mind Series and locally sourced coconut oil for after sun care. As for the rest, I just need a good pair of headphones and a smart travel bag from Globe-Trotter.
