Abu Dhabi’s pleasure island has added yet another attraction, but this time with a cultural and historic twist. Yas Island’s Serdal Pearl Diving Expedition pays homage to the UAE’s pearling history and gives visitors the opportunity to live out the traditional art of pearl diving in the Gulf. The expedition’s (almost) six-hour programme is inspired by and named after the serdal, the title bestowed upon the most skilled nokhada, or captain, in early pearling culture.
The Serdal Pearl Diving Expedition is open to all ages and competent swimmers can participate in the diving portion of the trip. Expeditions take place every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8am to 1.30pm. Prices start at AED 500 per adult, AED 250 per child between the ages of 8-12, and trips are free for children under eight.
