Qatar Airways will be opening a premium lounge for its first and business class passengers at London’s Heathrow airport. It will be the first of its kind outside of the airline's hub, Doha.
Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said, “London has long been one of our best-performing routes, so Heathrow was an obvious choice for our first Premium Lounge outside Doha.”
The new lounge marks the start of an exciting year for Qatar Airlines. Alongside nine new routes, the airline will be increasing its Doha- London connection by adding an extra flight bringing the total to five flights daily effective of March 25, 2012.
The Doha-London route has always been an important link for Qatar Airways and the vision was to create a lounge in London’s Heathrow that was reminiscent of a boutique hotel or members club.
It will feature a theatre-style brasserie, a delicatessen and martini bar. It will also have private shower and changing facilities complete with heated floors, hotel-standard fluffy towels and robes with luxury amenities.
The lounge staff will be handpicked from five-star resorts to provide its guest with the finest first-class service.
The English capital also has an exciting year ahead and Akbar Al Baker believes now is the right time to position itself as a leading carrier into the city.
He said, “With the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games taking place this summer, the international spotlight will be on the British capital and we look forward to the increase in capacity and welcoming more premium travellers on our high demand services to London.
“The lounge is the latest development in our expanding global network and will enable both loyal customers and those travelling with us for the first time, to take full advantage of the high levels of service we provide.”
In 2012 Qatar Airways will be launching nine new flights to Baku (Azerbaijan), Tbilisi (Georgia), Kigali (Rwanda), Gassim (Saudi Arabia), Helsinki (Finland), Zagreb (Croatia), Mombasa (Kenya), Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Perth (Australia).
