A stay Gili Lankanfushi, Maldives is a guarantee of ultimate privacy in paradise – despite being a mere 20-minute boat ride from Malé International Airport. The resort boasts 45 lavish over-water villas, including standalone Crusoe Residences and a magnificent (and massive) accommodation accessible only by boat…
1. INDULGE AT THE PRIVATE RESERVE
The world’s largest standalone over-water villa is a capacious 1,700sqm haven, 500 metres from the main resort, across the clear turquoise waters. The five-unit building is a “rustic chic” with one master en-suite bedroom, a duplex master suite with two bedrooms, secluded relaxation areas, a guestroom, private spa and a large central open plan living area with sea garden, natural coral pool, surrounded by viewing/sun decks, dining area, writing desk and daybeds.
The resident Mr and Ms Friday (your dedicated personal butlers) are on call 24 hours and can also assist with the fully equipped gourmet kitchen, available for private dining, snacks and drinks also around the clock. While adults will be mesmerised by the 400-label wine cellar, the young (and young at heart) can enjoy the waterslide that connects the top deck to the coral pool below.
2. RELAX AT MEERA SPA
Meera, in the Sanskrit language, rather fittingly translates to “ocean” and the resort’s Meera Spa offers a range of holistic therapies as well as signature massages, while guests can gawk through the facility’s glass floor panels beneath massage tables – designed to heighten the sensual experience. The spa includes six over-water treatment rooms, Ayurverdic treatment Champa, yoga, meditation Champa, steam and sauna rooms, and a relaxation area with panoramic views of the ocean.
3. PLAY TIME – LUXURY SURFING
Visitors to Gili Lankanfushi can now enjoy “luxury surfing” in the Maldives thanks to a new partnership with Tropicsurf, as surf season kicks off from March onwards. Expert tuition is available for all ages and abilities, with some of the best breaks in the world on the doorstep, and many more just 10-20 minutes away by boat. The resort shares the same stretch of reef as the world-famous “Jails” surf break (not for beginners!) and thrill-seekers can enjoy open tubes and racetrack waves, while beginners can enjoy the calmer lagoon shallows. Surf lessons start at US$125 per hour, including equipment hire, for anyone aged eight or older.
4. FIND ROMANCE AT LAGOON CHAMPA
Any celebration at Gili Lankanfushi is sure to be memorable, but the paradisiacal island is the ideal venue for the wedding of a lifetime. In true five-star Maldives style, the chapel is a standalone over-water affair, where couples can make vows and pop bottles in peace, and even enjoy sunset on a Dhoni cruise before an exclusive dinner on One Palm Island. The venue, of course, isn’t restricted to weddings; honeymoons, anniversaries and impromptu trysts are all catered for as part of bespoke packages – but do you really need an excuse to celebrate love?
5. DISCOVER FINE CUISINE
Located on the resort’s western beach, the Main Restaurant is the best place to enjoy fine cuisine, from a relaxing breakfast to a romantic dinner. The variety of food offers a combination of dishes from East to West, catering to individual preferences. To ensure that you have the opportunity of a deliciously varied dining experience, we present a daily changing gourmet experience at the restaurant, on top of an Asian Street Market on Tuesdays and a Mediterranean Spice Souk on Fridays. For drink, the Over Water Bar offers a 360-degree views of the Indian Ocean, making it an excellent place to wine and dine, either with your loved one or as a group of friends.
