When it first opened in 1963, The Mandarin quickly became the most sought-after address in Hong Kong for international travellers. From its coveted waterfront location on Connaught Road in the Central neighbourhood, guests were a stone’s throw from Victoria Harbour and some of the most important commercial centres in the city.
Today, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong remains one of the most prestigious hotels in town, but the city has expanded around it, edging the harbour further and further away thanks to land reclamation projects that have significantly increased the city’s footprint. Thankfully, the panoramic views from the upper floors of this historic hotel remain unchanged, allowing guests to take in the magnificent scenery of the bustling harbour and Hong Kong skyline.
This month, the hotel unveils The Mandarin Club, a refined urban escape on the 23rd floor for the exclusive use of Club guests, who can check in and out from the elegantly appointed lounge and enjoy a raft of perks including use of The Mandarin Club boardroom for two hours each stay. Breakfast and afternoon tea is served daily, along with an around-the-clock selection of light snacks, and when the sun goes down, canapés, cocktails and Champagne are served each evening.
Two floors up, the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant Man Wah has also been revamped in a sophisticated vision of royal blue and gold, with new private dining rooms where diners can savour an extraordinary Cantonese culinary experience courtesy of executive chef Wing-Keung Wong. Next door, Mandarin Oriental has collaborated with award-winning Hong Kong restaurant group Maximal Concepts to create Japanese izakaya bar, The Aubrey, where a medley of whimsically designed bar areas inspired by mid-19th century Japanism movement will set the scene for unforgettable dining experiences.
