One & Only Cape Town has doubled down on its efforts to be the most sought-after address on the VA Waterfront with elegant new interiors that showcase the natural beauty, culture and history of South Africa. The hotel design team worked with a collection of local artists and artisans to create a resort that embodies the essence of the destination, and the results are spectacular. Throughout the reimagined spaces, which include the 133 guestrooms and suites, the iconic Vista Bar & Lounge and the hotel lobby, visitors will discover textures, patterns and motifs that reflect the character of the country, inspired by the roaring Atlantic, the surrounding landscape and African culture and heritage, with hints of local lore and mythology. Legend has it that Table Mountain is in fact a sleeping giant - one of four tasked with protecting the world from a monstrous sea dragon.
The fable inspired Cape Town-based Kenyan artist Stanislav Trzebinski to create The Watchers, an artwork that now takes pride of place in Vista Bar & Lounge, whose panoramic windows frame majestic mountain views. Guestrooms feature earthy colours, indigenous patterns and fixtures and fittings that pay homage to South Africa’s role as the world’s gemstone capital. Suites feature new original artworks created by local artists Johanny Twala and Claude Chandler - which complement the extensive art collection curated over the last 13 years thanks to partnerships with various local art projects - while artisans have created custom-made hand-carved mirrors for the bathrooms and handmade organic-shaped ceramics throughout.
