The Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria has welcomed high-profile guests like Oscar Wilde and Richard Wagner since 1834, and today remains the jewel in the crown of the Italian town of Sorrento. Perched on the cliffs above the Bay of Naples, the hotel’s guests enjoy magnificent views of Mount Vesuvius and the surrounding Tyrrhenian Sea from its terraced suites, and the heady scent of Mediterranean flora fills the air while strolling through the lush gardens and citrus and olive groves.
The newest additions to the prestigious collection of opulent guestrooms includes Suite Pavarotti, dedicated to the famous tenor who frequently checked in at the Excelsior when visiting southern Italy, and Suite Avanti, in tribute to the Billy Wilder movie, Avanti, that was filmed at the hotel in 1972.
Arriving at the hotel via helicopter transfer means avoiding the traffic and soaking in spectacular views of the region, or guests can charter a chopper for a sightseeing flight around the bay and the dramatic peaks around it.
For the ultimate decadent treat, resident Michelin chef Antonino Montefusco can prepare a seven-course dinner served in the comfort of the suite or al fresco on the terrace, accompanied
by spectacular views of Sorrento.
