Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio has unveiled plans to develop his Belizean private island, Blackadore Caye, into a luxury resort.
Located just west of Ambergris Caye, the 104-acre tropical landmass will be transformed into an eco-luxury resort in cooperation with Four Seasons.
DiCaprio purchased the island 2004 while staying at the ultra-luxury Cayo Espanto resort for US $1.75, according to local news outlet, BelizeEscape.com, which will now be transformed into a five-star luxury resort based on sustainable design and environmental conservation.
DiCaprio intends the island resort to serve as a benchmark for testing innovative “green” technology, using renewable energy sources, the website reported, adding the private island will also include a solar-panelled airstrip to provide further power.
The private island will also include an exclusive collection of private villas with private pools and direct access to beaches, it was included in The New York Times’ report.
The resort is due to open in 2018 and will feature 68 villas, each with infinity pools. It was also mentioned that Deepak Chopra will lend his name to a program focused on health and anti-aging" at the resort.
