Urban Resort Concepts – the company behind the achingly cool The PuLi in Shanghai, The PuXuan in Beijing and The RuMa in KualaLumpur – has revealed plans for The PuYun, an all-villa resort set amid the rolling tea plantations and bamboo forests of Moganshan, China.
Urbanites from Shanghai and Hangzhou have fled the summer heat for Moganshan’s cool mountain air and serene lakes and countryside since the 1800s, earning it comparisons to the Hamptons, the beachfront retreat popular amongst wealthy New Yorkers.
British architect Sir David Chipperfield, who recently completed work on the West Bund Museum in Shanghai and the Royal Academy of Arts in London, has been tasked with creating a resort that celebrates the natural beauty and cultural legacy of the setting.
Shanghai-based design firm MQ-studio will pursue a similar goal in the interior spaces, which will include 80 villas, a lobby lounge and two restaurants that combine local culinary heritage with new innovations. The restorative effects of the natural setting will be complemented by immersive wellness journeys at UR Spa, as well two swimming pools, a yoga pavilion and a fitness centre
When The PuYun opens in 2022, visitors can expect an understated
and luxurious aesthetic that combines elements of the natural
environment with distinctly modern touches and a service philosophy
based around the concept of Hostmanship, with thoughtful touches
including 24-hour check-in and check-out.
