Bangkok remains no-go zone
Chaos continues in Bangkok today as the remaining protestors clash with government troops. At least seven people were reported to have died yesterday (Wednesday) and more than 60 wounded in ongoing clashes between anti-government protestors and the military. Red Shirt leaders called an end to the protest and urged the remaining protestors to surrender yesterday. Four of the protest’s key leaders were seen arriving at police headquarters as they were taken into police custody. Three more protest leaders henaded themselvs in to police today. Buses were dispatched to evacuate protestors who wished to return home. But the remaining protestors continued to clash with government troops - torching buildings in their wake. Some 34 buildings were set alight during the last 48 hours, including the Bangkok stock exchange, Central World shopping mall, banks and Channel 3 TV station, where reports claimed some 100 people were trapped inside the building. The Bangkok Post newspaper was forced to abandon its headquarters yesterday as groups converged near the offices. The government has extended its curfew for three more nights in a bid to restore order to the streets.
