An edgy seaside town in the UK is set to get a lift from a futuristic new attraction. Brighton is best known for its Victorian architecture and fun nightlife, blending a traditional tourist destination with contemporary flare.
The 162-metre tall i360 will arrive courtesy of French firm POMA and will be one of England’s most interesting coastal attractions when it opens summer 2016 – the highest moving observation deck.
Situated on the historic West Pier jetty, i360 will include a 200-person cabin that rises along a tower holding. The curved windows will offer a panoramic view thanks to designs from Marks Barfield London architects who are also the creators of the famous London Eye observation wheel.
The saucer-shaped design is entirely covered in glass panes and has a total surface of 180 metres-squared, weighing a total of 94 tons when empty. The full ascent is expected to take 5 minutes and 20 seconds to carry a full load of 200 passengers to the 138-metre high view point.
