Thailand’s Phang Nga Bay is dotted with tropical islands and towering karst rock formations, forming a sublime seascape of tropical lagoons and hidden bays. Homegrown brand Anantara is set to debut a spectacular beachfront resort on quiet Koh Yao Yai before the end of the year, halfway between Phuket and Krabi on an island dotted with coconut plantations and fishing villages.
Set on a kilometre-long stretch of white sandy beach, Anantara Koh Yao Yai will be home to 148 suites and villas, including one- and two-bedroom pool villas on the beach and Grand Seaview Family Suites, which feature a slide and play area, as well as two-tiered bunkbeds. Eight 366-square-metre Seaview Pool Penthouses are two-floor party pads with outdoor entertainment areas and spectacular views - one has a glass-bottom swimming pool.
An on-site organic farm will provide daily fresh fruit, vegetables and spices for the collection of restaurants, which will include a Thai/Asian speciality restaurant and an all-day dining spot serving seasonal fare, plus a laid-back beachfront dining venue serving pizza and popsicles, and a pool bar.
Guests can explore the villages and plantations of Yao Yai on a private tuk-tuk tour of the island while looking out for native hornbill birds, or explore the teeming waters of the Andaman Sea on snorkelling and diving excursions and island-hopping adventures.
