Ten ballet dancers from one of the world’s most prestigious schools are preparing for a weekend of gala performances in Dubai.
Nine young ballerinas and ballerinos, led by étoile dancer Karl Paquette, are the youngest generation to tour from the illustrious Paris Opera Ballet. The team will be performing a series of excerpts never seen before in the Emirate.
The dance company has been presenting new versions of major romantic and classical ballets that have garnered high praise worldwide, in addition to the quality of the dancers themselves.
Now, with contemporary choreographers in the mix, the event’s organisers predict that this will be the ideal ballet showcase for Dubai. Audiences will be treated to comprehensive segments from well-known ballets, such as Swan Lake and Don Quixote. The show will also include the Black Swan ‘pas de trois’ – a unique dance of three people – popularised Rudolf Nureyev, former director of the Paris Opera Ballet.
'Ballet Gala – performed by soloists from the Paris Opera' will run Thursday 9 – Saturday 11 January at the Madinat Jumeirah Theatre in Dubai. Premiere tickets are priced AED 375 (US $102) and AED 450 (US $123).
The first show is a VIP only, black tie event at 8pm, while the remaining shows are at 8pm Friday 10, and 2pm and 7pm respectively on Saturday 11. Performances run for two hours.
