The popular board game Monopoly has been launched in the Nigerian capital Lagos, adding to the African nation's reputation as one of the fastest growing metropolises in the world.
The game, masterminded by Bestman Games, was unveiled at an event in Lagos City Hall.
According to Nimi Akinkugbe, head of Bestman Games, the prestigious spot where Mayfair lies in the British edition was a hot topic, with many areas in Lagos campaigning to be in with a chance. In the end Bestman chose the manmade Banana Island, where houses can go for over US$8m (£4.9m).
The cheapest slot went to Makoko, which is a slum on stilts that sits over the city's lagoon.
The rest of the board was made up of sponsored slots, including the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Murtala Muhammed International Airport and various hotels.
Both 'Chance' and 'Community' cards have been tailored to the African city, with “Go to jail” cards reading “Go directly to Kirikiri jail”, Lagos’ maximum security prison. Chance cards offer penalties for offences such as, “For attempting to bribe the law enforcement agent pay a fine”.
The game has been released in time for the Christmas period.
