Anyone with even a passing interest in literature knows that “War & Peace” is heralded as an iconic tome and a landmark novel – if you manage to finish it. The Leo Tolstoy romance/war epic is one of the longest novels ever written at 587,287 words, but chances are this new hotel package has more to enjoy than to endure.
Now that the epic work has been brought to a new audience as a hit TV series, Corinthia Hotel St. Petersburg (pictured above) has decided to send guests back to nineteenth-century Tsarist Russia. The hotel’s new package includes a three-night stay, a full-day tour of Catherine Palace (below) and a half-day guided tour of the Hermitage Museum – all guided and planned to guests’ preferences, priced at 65,000 Rubles (approx. US$844.14).

St Petersburg was the capital of the Russian Empire from 1703 until 1917 and is famed for its wealth of monuments, sights, and museums hark back to the opulent era of the Tsars. Corinthia St. Petersburg is located in the heart of Nevsky Prospect, the city’s main thoroughfare and is therefore ideally located for visitors to explore the city.
Catherine Palace is famed for its Great Ballroom and Amber Room and the Hermitage Museum boasts one the world’s largest collections of antiquities and masterpieces in the world – including some of Leo Tolstoy’s works. Both locations are relevant to the novel, since it spans the period of Catherine the Great (1805-1812) and the Oscar-winning Soviet adaptation was partially filmed in the museum's Winter Palace building. The package also includes airport transfers, buffet breakfasts and a special “War & Peace” hotel amenity.
