It seems the world’s wealthiest and most famous footballer is bent on denting his $280 million fortune. Not only did the 30-year-old recently splash out on a New York penthouse and Gulfstream jet, he has now pledged $40 million to partner with Pestana Hotels.
The goal machine obviously had hospitality aspirations and has linked the new "CR7" properties with locations key to his life, such as Madeira, Lisbon, Madrid, and New York City; his home town, his capital, the location of current club Real Madrid, and where he may end up with aspirations of playing in the US MLS.
The four boutique hotels will have a combined total of 400 rooms and the first two Portuguese properties will open next year (2016), followed by the Madrid and NYC hotels in 2017. The footballer is funding half the project alongside Madeira-based Pestana – Portugal’s biggest hotel operator.
"I have to dedicate myself to this new project and I have the best team in the world around me to help,” he explained at a recent press conference. "A person like me, I'm a fighter, ambitious and always striving for more… I am young but I feel very fulfilled, so this project is exciting for me because my roots are in Madeira and this is where the first hotel will be."
