Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has signed a management contract with established safari lodge Bilila in the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.
Although no changes will be made initially and the resort remains open, Four Seasons will upgrade the lodge in the autumn of 2012 and rename the lodge Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti.
The lodge is located in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that boasts acres of plains perfect for safari. The lodge has 60 rooms, 12 suites and five villas, all of which have direct views over the Serengeti.
The new signing marks the start of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts' bold development plan in the sub-Saharan Africa. The Canadian company has plans for two more resorts in Tanzania: a luxury tented safari camp in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and an exclusive beach resort on the island of Zanzibar.
Newly appointed general manager James Kostecky, who has a long history with Four Seasons said, "It's great to be back in Africa, where each day brings a new wonder.
"This lodge will be an excellent opportunity for first time safari travellers, families and groups to experience the natural beauty, astounding wildlife and fascinating culture of the Serengeti."
