The Rolls-Royce Phantom Metropolitan Collection was unveiled today at the Mondial de L’Automobile in Paris.
The carmaker has commissioned a total of 20 of the special edition vehicles, which are said to be inspired by the French metropolis, and is claiming the Metropolitan Collection to be the pinnacle of its Bespoke programme.
The luxury marque launched its Phantom model back in 2003 and the cars have since continually been crafted at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England.
A notable feature of the new collection is the use of “marquetry”, which see inlayed pieces of wood veneer used to form decorative motifs, paying homage to the world’s greatest cities - as seen in the gallery above.
The Phantom’s signature picnic table is a perfect example, depicting a Parisian skyline through the placement of 500 individual wood veneer pieces – all hand-cut, coloured, shaped and applied.
The cityscape theme has also been applied to the vehicles’ upholstery. An “aetherius grey” leather colour was created specifically to echo the city’s tone, and 6,800 two-tone stitches to the central rear seat flutes depict an abstract image of a skyscraper.
And, for the first time in Rolls-Royce history, a rotating bezel in the central console depicts 24 cities and their time zones.
“I can think of no more fitting a location than Paris to debut this remarkable new motor car,” said CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös. “This is a city that echoes Rolls-Royce’s very special brand promise in perfectly combining the timeless and modern in a manner that celebrates the art of the master craftsperson.”
The carmaker has also recently revealed that high demand for its Bespoke programme. Around 90 percent of Wraith models, 80 percent of Ghost editions and “nearly every Phantom across the globe” incorporated elements of Bespoke design.
