The world’s most lavish crib is due to be revealed this month in Dubai – because nothing will declare your love to your little one like a 24-karat gold pedestal. You’d be forgiven for thinking of an MTV-style celebrity home reveal at the mention of “crib”, but this item of furniture is an actual gold-plated baby bed, complete with Swarovski diamond-encrusted quilting and plush Maserati leather.

On sale from Polish firm Luluu, the crib has been built by mega-yacht designers and is on sale for US $60,000 and will be revealed at this month’s INDEX design exhibition, although there is already a waiting list for other incarnations. To give some perspective, this one piece of furniture costs more than a year’s rent for a Burj Khalifa apartment, though the black and white editions (also pictured) are priced at a more modest $6,000 apiece.

“Its interior is the finest quality leather imported from Italy, more commonly found inside Maserati cars,” explained Marta Buzalska, who conceived of the contraption with her husband, Dariusz. “The quilted interior is seasoned with Swarovski diamonds to look like the stars in the sky, while the mattress itself is flexible, totally natural, ecologic and hypoallergenic, and was made according to all binding standards and attestations.”
