In the last edition of Destinations of the World News, we featured a round-up of some of the most innovative ways hotels were reaching out to travellers while the world stood still. One month on, a trio of Fairmont hotels in Canada has gone one step beyond to celebrate the magic of the luxury travel industry and the men and women who keep the wheels of travel turning, while simultaneously supporting the local arts community.

Fairmont Banff Springs and Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise have produced a series of short videos entitled The Art of Waiting; five whimsical vignettes depicting employees preparing for the return of their guests while going about their daily duties in hotels bereft of people. Visit either of the hotels’ YouTube pages to watch the wistful and surprisingly moving musical series told through the eyes of the housekeeper, the chef, the groundskeepers, the concierge and the bellhop, played by local actors, musicians and dancers.
Not to be outdone, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has created its own
five-part series in collaboration with the Edmonton Symphony
Orchestra, the long-standing partner of the hotel’s Symphony Under the Stars open-air music festival, which kicks off the Jasper Dark Sky Festival each October. The series features members of the orchestra performing at scenic locations around the hotel,
set to the spectacular backdrop of the Rocky Mountains.
All three hotels have reopened and are welcoming guests once more.
