Perched on a mountaintop high above Lake Lucerne, Bürgenstock Resort is one of the most spectacularly situated hideaways in Switzerland. During its century and a half of history, Bürgenstock has celebrated numerous firsts and accolades, from debuting the first electric funicular in Switzerland in 1888 to rolling out the red carpet to high-profile guests including Charlie Chaplin, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren. To celebrate its 150th anniversary, Bürgenstock is raising the bar with a collection of ‘Beyond Imagination’ experiences that promise money can’t buy encounters.
Our favourite is ‘Write Your Own History’, a once-in-a-lifetime experience that sees guests paired with an award-winning author who will write their personal memoir. Over several one-on-one interview sessions, the biographer-in-residence will listen to the guest’s life story and immortalise it in a manuscript, honed and perfected during digital follow-up sessions. When the biography and images are approved, the book will be sent to the printers – perhaps the most meaningful travel souvenir imaginable.
Other Beyond Imagination experiences include creating a bespoke timepiece with a Swiss watchmaker and the chance to design, plan and execute an haute couture wedding while staying at The Adria, a 24-room South Kensington townhouse that becomes the newest addition to the Bürgenstock Collection this month.
In June, on the anniversary of the resort’s founding, a full weekend of festivities will take place under the watchful eye of executive director Stefan Leser, who stepped to the role in July 2022 following an extensive hospitality career that has included top roles at Langham Hospitality Group and Jumeirah.
