Inspired by Asian sensibilities and natural elements, Banyan Tree Group’s new minimalist brand Garrya promotes beauty in simplicity by offering serene spaces designed for simplified living, cultural immersion, and authentic experiences. Following hotel openings in China, Japan and Thailand last year, Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta has recently opened on Indonesia’s island of Java. Located on the banks of Denggung River in Gabugan Village, the hotel connects guests to the storied past of ancient Javanese architecture. Dedication to sustainable design, Arte Architect and Associates have centred pyramid-like structures in an inner courtyard, complementing a joglo-style lobby clad in recycled wood.
The property features 24 modern villas with plunge pools, a residential two-bedroom villa with a swimming pool, gazebo, Jacuzzi, and living room, as well as a signature Wellbeing Sanctuary Villa for a rejuvenating experience. Reflecting the resort’s focus on mindfulness and wellbeing, the four-room 8lements Spa specialises in indigenous wellness therapies rooted in Asian wisdom. Guests can partake in poolside yoga at the riverside deck, dance workshops in the dedicated Movement Studio, or workouts in the gym. Culinary offerings will be a celebration of Yogyakarta’s flavourful cuisine, with traditional dishes made from locally sourced ingredients offered at the resort’s ‘Refresh’ all-day dining venue, Kopi Zop lounge and bar, and the private dining room. An on-site shop will also feature handmade arts and crafts by local artisans.
