When Dubai’s ruler declares a plan to do something, you know it’s not just a pipe dream. In fact, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai has announced plans for a new attraction where dreams may become a reality – the Museum of the Future.
Described as a destination for innovators, the new establishment is slated for 2017 across from Jumeirah Emirates Towers, according to Wam, the UAE’s state news agency.
The museum’s motto, “see the future, create the future”, is particularly apt as the eye-shaped building will arrive in town ahead of a gamete of other planned tourist attractions, such as the Dubai Canal project, the gigantic Dubai Eye Ferris wheel and a range of theme parks.
"His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, our President, has declared 2015 to be the year of innovation in the UAE. Today, we show how serious and committed we are to that mission by turning the UAE into a major international destination for innovators,” Sheikh Mohammed told the media. “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it and execute it.”
Large portions of the museum structure will be built using 3D printing construction techniques, incorporating the latest inventions from global tech giants and regional start-ups. The official YouTube video preview depicts the US $136 million facility being filled with technological wonders - including a range of humanoid robots. Whether or not they'll appear it the opening remains to be seen.
