No party is complete without a pop singer and her back-up dancing sharks. Although the Dubai Airshow Gala Dinner didn’t feature the viral shark companions of Katy Perry, last night at the Atlantis Hotel in Dubai, the pop sensation performed to an enthusiastic crowd.
An eventful week of innovative aviation news at Dubai Airports, in cooperation with Dubai Duty Free and Emirates airlines, was not complete without an incredible concert. And when the world’s #1 international airport collaborates with Katy Perry, currently the world’s #1 recording artists and highest paid woman in music, the result was (like) fireworks – surely Perry would agree.
Setting the stage for the launch of musicDXB, Ms. Perry astounded the invitation-only audience of over 3,200 fans by performing a spectacular 90 minute show, featuring hits from her ‘Prismatic Tour’. Songs like ‘I Kissed A Girl’, ‘Roar’ and one of her most beloved hits ‘Fireworks’ were chosen for her set. The latter tune was accompanied by fireworks lighting up the Dubai sky behind her.
‘Britain’s Got Talent’ finalists Jack Pack, who will launch Dubai Airports’ musicDXB programme on November 11, warmed up airshow gala dinner guests by putting their contemporary stamp on much-loved classics from their self-titled debut album.
Dubai Airports’ Executive Vice President of Commercial & Communications Eugene Barry expressed his content with the result of the show:
“Katy Perry was our first and only choice as the feature act for this exclusive event. She has been the most consistent hit-maker in the last half-decade and is a social media phenomenon. Her creativity, talent and impressive achievements inspire hundreds of millions of fans around the world as she connects the world with music. We have a very similar aspiration in mind with our musicDXB programme. She lit up the stage and made an indelible impression on our 3200 guests with her incredible gift of music.”
Katy Perry’s performance was the latest punctuation mark in the star-studded history of Dubai Airshow Gala Dinner. Crowds have been previously entertained by super star performers including Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Michael Bolton, Tom Jones, and George Benson, to name a few.
Dubai International Airport has always successfully integrated performances into it’s venue - hosting other pop-up events including an impromptu airport show featuring Kelly Rowland.
