Three days are all that separates Tartu becoming the cultural centre of Europe as the city’s mega-programme for the European Capital of Culture kicks off.

With over 1,000 events lined up across 350 projects, travellers to the Southern Estonian city can enjoy architecture tours, street and contemporary art exhibitions, light installations, music, film, and culinary experiences under the theme of ‘Arts of Survival’ from January 26.

If this sounds exciting and you’re based in Finland, then you’ll also be able to travel to Tartu from Helsinki onboard Finnair. Taking off from March 31, the year-round service will operate two flights-per-day, six days-a-week.

Flights will depart Helsinki Airport at 1.50pm and 11.55pm and arrive at Ülenurme Airport at 2.35pm and 12.40am the following day respectively. Return journeys will leave Tartu at 6am and 3pm and land in the Finnish capital at 6.40am and 3.40pm respectively.

The new operations will complement Finnair’s existing flights between Helsinki and Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, which currently operate up to 10 times per day.
