Real Madrid wonder boy and perennial Ballon d’Or contender Cristiano Ronaldo is scoring headlines away from the pitch. The soccer star recently sunk US $18.5 million into a New York loft on Fifth Avenue’s Trump Tower.
The 2,509 sq ft apartment served as the inspiration for the uber-popular 50 Shades of Grey novel, a source told New York Post. The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom pad has already stirred rumours that the Portuguese international will segue his career to the MLS, following in the footsteps of David Beckham, Thierry Henry and Steven Gerrard.
The pricey apartment was previously owned by renowned designer Juan Pablo Monyneux, a business partner of the building’s namesake Donald Trump, but shouldn’t have dented Ronaldo’s wallet too much, after he earned an estimated $79 million last year.
