The Yacht Harbour Association from the UK has re-awarded two of Portugal’s main yachting destinations the prestigious Five Golden Anchor rating – the highest ranking given to any marina in the world.
Both Vilamoura and Albufeira located on the south coast of Portugal were re-awarded the accolade after a rigorous assessment of the facilities, management of the berths and quality of service.
The 475-berth marina in Albufeira was described by the association as being, “a well managed site, with an excellent environment”.
Dr Jose Massapina, Marina de Albufeira’s manager said, "We are very proud and happy to renew this important certification. This is the result of the hard work of all the team from Marina de Albufeira."
Marina Vilamoura, which with 875 berths is the biggest marina in Portugal, also received the award and was described as “a luxury boating destination with a vibrant atmosphere. It offers an excellent service to sailors and vessels. Their professional and well trained staff offer 24/7 cover at the marina.”
Director of Vilamoura Marina, Isolete Correia said, “It is with great pride that we once again receive the renewal of the five golden anchors award from the Yacht Harbour Association.”
The Gold Anchor Award Scheme has been running for 23 years and recognises marinas from around the world, awarding stars (or anchors) ranging from one to five.
