Guests at Six Senses Laamu can now dangle, stretch, meditate and "fly" all at once, with the addition of a new aerial yoga program.
Physical, mental and spiritual – yoga is all about transforming the body and mind. The centuries old discipline has been embraced by the west in recent decades, as new variations pop up.
While the dynamic moves of “vinyasa” stretches and strengthens and the heated “bikram” variation sweats out the toxins, this new contender has been adopted by Six Senses Laamu.
The island resort has introduced the fashionable new form of yoga, which brings together stretching, breathing and meditation with some gymnastics.
Six Senses Laamu provides an adapted hammock, made of parachute-silk fabric, which is suspended from the ceiling and used to support the body weight during a sequence of postures.
The weightlessness is said to help remove compression from the spine and opens up joints, which the resort claims to relieve stress and tension. Other benefits include muscle strengthening and lengthening, low impact cardiovascular conditioning and increased mobility.
The resort's yoga teacher will present more challenging acrobatic poses to guests with strong stamina and higher fitness levels, but a gentler and more meditative and rehabilitative version of aerial yoga can be conveyed.
