Stay

The St. Regis opened its doors in Nation Towers in 2013, breaking records and impressing global travellers by inaugurating the highest suspended hotel suite in the world. The Presidential Suite sets the bar for decadence, and the rest of the rooms follow suit. Upon entering the capacious lobby, where glittering chandeliers and sprawling staircases open up, I’m greeted with a cup of hot tea and medjool dates, a local delicacy.

Moments after being escorted to my room on the 34^th floor, the phone rings: it’s my butler calling to inform me he’s on his way. A signature feature of staying at St. Regis, the Butler Service is highly encouraged via the #butlerselfie social media campaign. Not only does he unpack my bags, he serves me tea with biscuits, and in the morning draws my bubble bath. Leaning back in the tub, I watch TV (there’s a screen in the mirror) and look to the chandelier overhead. I could get used to this. Looking for something beyond luxurious? The Presedential Suite is one of the top suites in the country, available at AED 100,000 ($27,000 USD) per night.

Dine

Eating out at Nation Towers feels like a tailor-made experience. The facility offers a rich range of experiences to choose from, all of which hit the spot. For an al fresco dinner, Azura was on the cards. An ideal venue to watch the day turn to night from a private cabana, the panoramic view of the Corniche enhances the chilled out lounge vibe.

The menu of Arabic mezze is accompanied by a range of flavoured shisha and fantastic cocktails, best shared with a group of friends looking to kick back and catch up.

If it’s sophistication you desire, Asia de Cuba is across the way, via a private marbled-clad underpass. Launched in December 2014, the ultra-luxe interior of Asia de Cuba opens up to a sprawling deck, dotted with private beach cabanas. The food at Asia de Cuba is as equally esteemed as its atmosphere, evidenced by the crowd that grows throughout the evening.

Play

After an epic shopping spree in the world-class Nation Galleria it’s time for the Beach BBQ at Nation Riviera Beach Club, an oasis in the desert where the pool is stones throw away from the bright blue Corniche. The choice between a full-blown buffet or dining à la carte is yours. A live DJ spins while the breeze swirls, and diners float between beachfront tables and the pool.  

This party is the place to be on a Friday afternoon, and an excellent alternative to the typical indoor brunches popularised by the UAE. If the beach is too busy, or shade is what you need, a classic Bloody Mary can be enjoyed from the cosy interiors of St. Regis Bar. Leather lounge chairs and antique opulence provide a more private ambience for guests who look to relax.

Spa

Remede Spa has won award after award since opening its doors. Once experienced, it’s easy to see why. The reception to the spa is a room bursting with light from both sides, with dreamy white curtains lining the walkway to where my massage is taking place. The one-hour custom massage includes full access to an aqua-blue mosaic-encrusted steam room and giant Jacuzzi. The sauna and relaxation lounge are a winning combo.

Sinking into the chaise, I’m wrapped in a white terry cloth with a cup of tea in hand, and the pristine Corniche is once again in view. The recurring desire to stay forever arises, and I doze off until it’s time to head up to the room and pack – assisted once again by my private butler.
