There’s more than a hint of Wes Anderson about the new-look poolside cabanas at The Beverly Hills Hotel, a collection of pastel-pink hideaways that line the edge of the iconic LA pool that has featured in its fair share of Hollywood classics. Remodelled by New York-based interiors firm Champalimaud Design, the cabanas pay homage to original design elements of the ‘Pink Palace’, which has welcomed a carousel of Hollywood starlets and movie icons since its debut in 1912.
Basket-weave chairs, terrazzo coffee tables and plush raspberry sofas create a cosy atmosphere in each of the 11 cabanas, which are shaded by pink and white candy cane awnings and feature peach pink tables from local design company BEND. Each cabana is draped in pink Martinique banana leaf wallpaper, created by LA company CW Stockwell in 1942 and used previously to create the vibrant and playful atmosphere of the hotel, from the 5.5 miles of hallway to the storied surrounds of the Fountain Coffee Room.
Down the road, sister property the Hotel Bel-Air will soon host a rare exhibition of photos from The Last Sitting, photographer Bert Stern’s legendary 12-hour photoshoot with Marilyn Monroe that took place a few weeks before she died in 1962.
From September 1 to October 31, 15 images from the shoot will be on display in the lobby of the hotel, revealing an intimate glimpse of Hollywood’s brightest star.
