For those who like a side-order of art with their summer sojourns, Dorchester Collection has just unveiled the latest in its series of bespoke, private walking trails which allow inquisitive art aficionados to follow in the footsteps of some of the world’s most legendary artists, in some of the most beautiful cultural capitals.
Following Picasso’s Montmartre and Monet’s Revolutionary Brushstrokes in Paris, Caravaggio - Rebel and Rome kicks off the new series, inviting guests staying at Hotel Eden, one of the Eternal City’s most prestigious abodes, to discover the story of Caravaggio’s extraordinary life. The walking tour delves deep into Caravaggio’s rags to riches story, a life inspired and seduced by a cast of colourful characters – from wealthy patrons to gamblers, to models and fortune-tellers – and inextricably linked to the city he called home.
Accompanied by a deeply passionate and knowledgeable guide, you’ll uncover why movie director Martin Scorsese thought Caravaggio would have been a great film-maker, and how a match of real tennis led to Caravaggio’s own death sentence. The Caravaggio - Rebel and Rome private and bespoke walking trail offer starts from €1,070 based on two sharing a Prestige Room or Suite, including an American breakfast and a two-hour expert guided tour.
Later this year, the series will expand to feature Rodin - Love and Torment at Le Meurice Paris, and Hepworth - Rhythm, Movement and Space at 45 Park Lane, London.
