The world premiere of the Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion took place this week at the CES Revolution of Mobility event in Las Vegas - the latest and most exciting innovation in the new era of connected cars.
The German automaker has released a comprehensive range of images for the self-driving saloon, which is both a luxury vehicle for everyday transportation and a “private retreating space”, so says Mercedes.
The lounge-like interior of the F 015 would enable business meetings, as well as secluded comfort, thanks to the rotating chairs that allow a face-to-face configuration. All four electrically powered seats can also swing outwards by 30 degrees as soon as the doors are opened.
“The single most important luxury goods of the 21st century are private space and time," explained Dr Dieter Zetsche, head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
"Autonomously driving cars by Mercedes-Benz shall offer exactly that. With the F 015 Luxury in Motion, this revolutionary concept of mobility becomes tangible for the first time."
Passengers can also interact with the vehicle through physical gestures, eye movements or by using the on-board high-res screens. And thanks to the laser projection and LED displays, the electrically-propelled F 015 can give a view of the outside world via a projected image.
"We have a master plan in place to take the big leap required getting from technically feasible to commercially viable. The F 015 Luxury in Motion demonstrates where this may take us,” Dr Zetsche.
