The final voyage of the QEII, the Beatles' rooftop gig and the last ever episode of Breaking Bad – all watershed moments that remind us how hard it is to say goodbye. No farewells, however, compare to the sale of the 450th and final ever Bugatti Veyron – arguably one of the finest production cars ever made.
The vehicle, “La Finale”, was sold to a Middle Eastern buyer and took the shape of a Grand Sport Vitesse; a 1,183bhp open-topped beast with 1,106lb ft of torque, and the ability to “teleport” from 0-62mph in just 2.5 seconds – to borrow an expression from Jay Leno in the below video.
"The Veyron is unique in many respects even ten years after its launch," said Bugatti dresident Wolfgang Dürheimer. "In the Veyron, Bugatti has created an automobile icon and established itself as the world's most exclusive supercar brand."
The absolute top speed of the Veyron (267.86mph) was demonstrated at this week’s Geneva Motor Show, where #450 was showcased alongside the first model ever built, 10 years ago. To mark the occasion, Bugatti has compiled a “supercut” of some of the world’s most renowned motor journalists gleefully extolling the Veyron’s virtues. It’s something rather special.

“A unique chapter in automobile history has reached its climax. The most powerful and fastest production super car in the world, the Bugatti Veyron, is sold out. The development of the Veyron was one of the greatest engineering challenges in the car industry,” the carmaker said in the description of its video tribute.
“The Bugatti engineers were asked to go on mission impossible: Develop a car that must have more than 1,000 horsepower, drive faster than 400 km/h, accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3 seconds... Many people did not believe that this could be done at all. But we succeeded – and the Veyron has led the automotive world into a new dimension.”
