The turquoise waters of the Caribbean are speckled with more than 7,000 islands, each of which exude their own unique character thanks to the diverse historical and cultural influences that have shaped the region. For Swedish entrepreneur Bengt Mortstedt, it was the perfect climate, warm hospitality and seafaring heritage of Bequia that made him fall in love with the island and acquire the land on which he would create the Bequia Beach Hotel, a charming, 57-room boutique set in nine acres of lush tropical gardens overlooking a palm-fringed beach and the inviting expanse of the Caribbean.

This November, the hotel will unveil three new ultra-luxe private villas on the picturesque Friendship Beach, a mile-long expanse of golden sand facing the island of Mustique a few kilometres away. Each of the three-bedroom villas will have large outside terraces with swimming pool and lounge areas, as well as a private study and a dining room, ideal for a family escape in one of the Caribbean’s best kept secrets.

Bequia Beach Hotel’s private yacht, Star of the Sea, is also available for private day charter, or book it for the week and embark on a cruise around St Vincent and the Grenadines, stopping off in Mustique and secluded island escapes like Canouan and the Tobago Cays. A new partnership with private aviation firm Bequia Air means guests can also transfer direct from Barbados on a private 25-minute charter flight, for a swift and seamless arrival experience.
