Luxe villas protruding into blue waters; insta-perfect sunsets over the horizon; lazy days on pristine sand beaches; forget the Maldives because we’re talking about Abu Dhabi.

Bab Al Nojoum, the capital’s luxury campground, is now inviting guests to its new 31 premium villas on the city’s Hudayriyat Island, promising a touch of Maldivian magic.

Plump for one of the 17 beachfront villas to enjoy a private swimming pool, cabana and sunbed from either a one- or two-bedroom unit. Travelling in big numbers? Some villas are connected via doors in the pool area, making it ideal for a family trip away.

If you prefer relaxing over the gentle waves, there are 14 overwater duplex villas that come with terraces, private pools, sunbeds, and a dining table. Two of these come as two-bedroom villas, while the rest are studios for more intimate staycations.

Gastronomes have a new restaurant to experience too, the European-inspired La Cocina, which dishes up pizzas from a wood-fire oven and grilled meats. Choose dinner from an à la carte menu or get to know your fellow glampers at a community gathering feast, served at sunset.
