Riding the rails across Switzerland’s snow-covered mountains from the comfort of a luxury train has long been a dream for many. However, the route that connects Montreux, Gstaad and Interlaken has always been a hassle, requiring passengers to go through the trouble of multiple transfers because of the different sizes of tracks along the route – until now. The Montreux Oberland Bernese (MOB) Railway Company is relaunching a lavish locomotive, The Goldenpass Express (GPX) train, which has been completely redesigned by Pininfarina. The Italian design firm has designed the train to be able to change heights and jump tracks in order to travel across the three idyllic locations.
The seats are separated into three main categories: Second Class, First Class and Prestige Class. Each class offers panoramic views with large no-reflection windows making them ideal for pictures. The Prestige Class includes heated seats and across all classes passengers can indulge in light bites, such as caviar or assorted cheeses with wine. Each seat also offers plenty of storage space for bags and ski gear. The three-hour train ride stops along the way in the picturesque towns of Boltigen, Erlenbach, Oey-Diemtigen and Spiez among others.
