Ace Hotel has drafted in a team of writers to provide a new creative experience for guests. Ace Hotel New York has called upon the penmanship of 12 international writers to ink notes for patrons as part of a project called “Dear Reader”.
During their stay, each writer will produce an open letter to the audience guests, before it is distributed at every bedside on a randomly chosen date. Every guest will receive the letter, which will all be hand-stamped and numbered each month.
Journalist and fiction writer Alexander Chee is heading up the project, which welcomes one writer per month at the hotel throughout 2014. In addition, Dale Peck, Kiese Laymon, Sigrid Nunez, Chinelo Okparanta and Atticus Lish have also been confirmed.
The writers were approached for Dear Reader based on their previous experiences with Chee, who said they each had told him a story he couldn’t forget.
Chee had previously curated The Amtrak Residency, a project that saw writers flung across the US on trains. These new batch of writers have been asked to write in an epistolary format so that the collated letters will culminate as a “living anthology” of 2015.
