ARKEN Museum of Modern Art
ARKEN lies big and monumental on the coastline, 20 minutes south of Copenhagen. The striking architecture has become a landmark for the area. In July and August there are two major exhibitions including ‘Hundertwasser – Artist and Eco-activist’. The Austrian artist is known for his spiral paintings, but this exhibition explores his ideas about green architecture, ecology and urban gardening, which are as relevant as ever. In the permanent collection you will find works by Damien Hirst, Ai Weiwei, Anselm Reyle and Olafur Eliasson.

Radisson Blu Royal Hotel
Radisson Blu Royal is a must-see for anyone with a soft spot for Danish design. Arne Jacobsen designed the entire hotel, from the exterior to the tapestries and the cutlery in Alberto K restaurant. It gives the hotel a distinctive feel of wholeness. Room 606 is a magnificent showcase for exquisite original décor from the 1960s.

Lumskebugten
Lunch at Lumskebugten at Esplanaden is a real treat. The tavern is situated in Frederiksstad at the spot where ships and sailors took leave of Denmark and once again set foot on Danish soil after having sailed around the world. Now it is a vibrant and charming part of the city.

K-Bar
The K-Bar at Ved Stranden is definitely worth a visit for its cocktails. The bartenders are among the best in Denmark.

CPH:DOX
Copenhagen is a festival hub with cultural events all year round. When the winter sets in, I enjoy going to the cinema. The Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival (CPH:DOX) is an innovative festival taking place in November. It offers an insight into what’s new in the world of non-fiction filmmaking, framed by numerous film screenings, concerts, workshops and parties.

FAMO Restaurant
I always recommend my favourite restaurant FAMO. The food is impeccable yet simple and rustic; a mixture of Italian and Danish cuisine. My weakness is the grilled salsiccia (Italian sausage) with crostino.

Thorvaldsens Museum
This is the oldest museum in Denmark. The architecture is quite unique, with its bold colour and unusual façade. The museum houses most of the works by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844) created for patrons throughout Europe.

Christianshavn
This neighbourhood is a historical and cultural pearl. Our Saviour’s Church, with its corkscrew spire, offers a unique view over the entire city. This is a neighbourhood of fascinating contrasts. Swing by the harbour and visit the best restaurant in the world, NOMA, or enjoy the exciting atmosphere at the new market, Copenhagen Street Food.
Skagen
I recommend a trip to Skagen, in the far north of Denmark, preferably on a schooner. The landscape is beautiful but harsh, with heath, cliffs, sand dunes and an extraordinary light, which has attracted artists for centuries. Visit Skagens Museum, which houses works by Michael Ancher, P.S. Krøyer, as well as the entire colony of Skagen painters.
