Waldorf Astoria has announced its Australia debut with a landmark property in one of the most prestigious new developments in the city: One Circular Quay. The mixed-use development at 1 Alfred Street will include a 61-floor luxury residential tower and the 28-storey hotel, designed by Tokyo-based Kengo Kuma & Associates and homegrown Crone Architects.
Foliage covered walls at ground level will form a visual connection between the building interior and the greenery of First Fleet Park across the street, while the upper levels, home to 179 rooms and 41 suites, will afford spectacular views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, which are both on the doorstep. Other nearby attractions include the Royal Botanic Gardens and Museum of Contemporary Art.
Southern Hemisphere sunshine will pour in through towering windows to create a sense of lightness and calm throughout, extending from the Waldorf Astoria Spa on level one up to the rooftop bar, which will provide a bird’s-eye view of the city’s top landmarks.
Two original restaurant concepts will celebrate Sydney’s vibrant gastronomy scene and Waldorf Astoria’s signature Peacock Alley will serve as the central hub of the property. The new hotel will mark the brand’s debut in Australasia when it opens in 2025.
