Qatar’s national carrier announced its A380 superjumbo is to venture to and from London’s Heathrow as of this summer, and simultaneously showcased the superjumbo’s first class cabin.
The first class “suite” will contain just eight seats, which unsurprisingly double up as beds, are to be the world’s largest and widest.
Each seat will have a 90-inch pitch and will lay fully flat and a “dining for two” option will allow passengers to sit opposite one another during meal times. In-flight entertainment screens will also be among the largest on any airline, at 26-inches.
Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker was at the ITB trade fair in Berlin last week, declaring there was a market for a first class service on the London route. He also added that the airline was intending to bring something different from its competitors.
"Operating on the Doha to London Heathrow route, this cabin will offer a new level of comfort for passengers travelling to the United Kingdom, who will also benefit from our Premium Terminal in Doha and the new Qatar Airways Premium Lounge in London Heathrow Terminal 4,” said Al Baker.
The carrier has 13 A380-800s on order, which will feature first, business and economy aboard its two decks. There are also 80 A350 aircraft anticipated for this year, with Qatar Airways on board as the launch customer.
